Legal Careers - Australia

Australia is famous for allowing foreign nationals with the right qualifications to contribute, either directly or by imparting skills to those who will carry them into the future. Aside from the appeal of adventure in such a colourful and diverse country, those who participate in the economic boom are going to feel valued. From the ever increasing salaries to a future ripe with Legal Career opportunities, those who bring their talent with them and are willing to use it, are the ones who will get the most out of it.

The physical and geographical charms of Australia are well known. It is a unique country with a rich and varied landscape and the legendary outback is synonymous with tales of rugged adventure. While this desert area is vast and spreads across many of the territories of the world’s smallest continent, it is by no means an accurate reflection of the rest of the topography. In the north, the closer you get to the equator, the landscape changes significantly. Visitors will find a tropical climate and the rainforest vegetation which goes with it. Also in the north, just off the coast, it is the famous Great Barrier Reef which runs an impressive distance of over 2,000 kilometres, making it the world’s longest coral reef.

It is on the southeastern coastline where most of the population lives. This is the area where the British first founded the colony which would lead to the formation of the Commonwealth of Australia, the name by which the country is formally known. The southeastern coastline has the most temperate climate and is thus the most inhabitable. Those who do live and work in Australia are not only fortunate to have such a beautiful variety of landscapes to enjoy, but they can also reap the rewards of one of the world’s most stable economies.

The United Nations Human Development Index measures Australia to be the third best place to live in terms of health, education and standard of living. Much of the country’s recent economic growth is due to the mineral and energy exports of Western Australia. The recent growth of Brazil, Russia, Indian and China has allowed Australia to exploit its natural resources and develop a powerful exporting industry. Petroleum, iron-ore and nickel are the main exports of the fast growing commodities industry. The mineral sector is already bringing in billions of dollars in revenue and it is expected to continue on a growth path. The problem has been a lack of skilled professionals to facilitate advances at a pace which can meet the demand. Those with professional qualifications are being sought in many fields, from engineering to finance, especially those with specialist knowledge or qualifications in the Legal arena who can provide invaluable input. Understandably, the financial services are in need of those with the necessary skills to deal with the complexities of international trade law. Of course, such large scale development has created an immediate need for sharp legal minds in areas as diverse as insurance, conveyancing, employment, mining, transport and technology.
